Northwest Indiana's downtown has recently been improved! Whitcomb Terrace, which is in Lake County, Indiana, is currently run by Marquette Management. Our Whitcomb Terrace apartment homes are conveniently located off the Lincoln Highway and are only minutes away from some of Merrillville, Indiana's greatest dining, entertainment, and retail destinations, including places where you can easily celebrate the Fourth of July.

Our Whitcomb Terrace neighbors will be happy to know that there are activities spread out over Merrillville that give breathtaking views of the yearly fireworks spectacle as the Fourth of July gets near. Anyone staying at our opulent apartment apartments with a hankering for pyrotechnics may simply visit any of the numerous places around the neighborhood with ease because to Whitcomb Terrace's close proximity to the highway that cuts through Merrillville.

As an alternative, our homeowners can choose to travel to the nearby town of Schererville for an earlier Fourth of July celebration at their event in Rohrman Park.

Join us for our annual Fireworks Show!

Schererville Parks and Recreation's fireworks celebration has come again!

Enjoy the day and night with family, friends, and loved ones.

Live entertainment, Beer Garden, Food Trucks, Crafters & Vendors and more!

We are EXCITED to announce Sushi Roll is performing from 6:30pm- 9:30pm!!!

This event is a town favorite, so the earlier the better
Don't forget the chairs and blankets!

Rain date = Friday July 2nd(Dusk)

Take your music and performance lifestyle live for a night out along the South Shore. Open mics and music nights happen nearly every night through Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland, and here are a few that will help you reach your 10,000 hours of mastery. Know of more local performance opportunities that we’ve missed? This list is made to grow, so please let us know…

Bulldog Brewing Co.’s First Friday Karaoke

Reoccurring every first Friday of the month at 9 p.m.

Every first Friday of the month at 9 p.m., karaoke night comes to Bulldog Brewing Co., in Whiting

D.J. Roni is your host and they boast a wide selection of your favorite songs waiting to be sung by you.

Pick your favorite tune, put your name on the list, grab an 11 Mile Lager and hit the stage. An amazing and musical night out is guaranteed for all.

Need songs to sing? Open with anything by the Beastie Boys for energy, and close your night out with “Sweet Caroline,” by Neil Diamond – it’s bound to be sung at least once, so it might as well be sung by you (the audience will love it)!

1409 – 119th St.
Whiting, Ind.
Phone: 219-655-5284

Aftermath Cidery and Winery’s Karaoke

Reoccurring every other Friday from 7-10 p.m.

Karaoke night is live at Aftermath Cidery and Winery from 7-10 p.m. every other Friday through the summer. Be sure to visit their monthly calendar to see which Friday night event occurs, because the cidery rotates between karaoke and live music. Let your song selection be bold, like Aftermath’s Avalanche cider – a semi-dry cider that would make a Granny Smith smile.

15 Washington St.
Valparaiso, Ind.
Phone: 219-299-8463

White Rhino Bar & Grill’s Karaoke Nights

Reoccurring every Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. and Sunday at 9 p.m.

Pick your favorite songs to cover two nights a week at White Rhino Bar & Grill. Karaoke plays live on Wednesday nights at 9:30 p.m. and Sunday nights at 9 p.m. in Dyer, and if you’d rather only listen to tunes, Rhino offers a live DJ spinning every Friday and Saturday.

This is a good bet for any group looking to get out and get musical.

101 E Joliet St.
Dyer, Ind.
Phone: 219-864-9200

Burn ‘Em Brewing’s Vinyl Night

Reoccurring every Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Local musician Robert Rolfe is known for an extensive and elaborate vinyl collection, and he spins his wares every Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Burn ‘Em Brewing. After exploring some classics and his favorites, Rolfe will crack open a brand new vinyl each week, so you’re always offered a new tune for your ears.

Feel free to use the vinyl to inspire you to sample a new creation from Burn ‘Em Brewing while you’re there. Nearly 10 beers are always on tap, with new flavors rotating in and out every season. We recommend The Hop Parade – it’s a five hop variety IPA, dry hopped with Citra and Nugget hops.

When Burn ‘Em is not spinning vinyl on Tuesdays, you can catch some of the best acoustic acts in the region. You won’t know until you show up!

718 Freyer Rd.
Michigan City, Ind.

Phone: 773-796-1327

One Trick Pony Brewery’s Open Mic

Reoccurring every Wednesday from 7-11 p.m.

Laid back, lacking pretense, but full of support – head to One Trick Pony Brewery every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and sign yourself up to perform your music. Not looking to perform? Everyone would love an extra audience member. Enjoy fantastic beer and One Trick Pony pizza while you watch the show. Under 21s allowed to perform.

Lansing, Ill.
Phone: 708-889-6683

Evil Horse Brewing’s Open Mic

Reoccurring every Thursday from 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Enjoy live, local music and bring the tools of your trade to get up and play. Musicians that attend the open mic also have the potential to book some gigs with the brewery on their visits. Just ask the host after your set!

For those feeling bold, try out their brand new Russian Imperial Stout, Eyjafjallajökull – rich with licorice, molasses, vanilla, oak, coffee, dark chocolate, dark dried fruit flavors and honey. Yum.

1338 Main St.
Crete, Ill.
Phone: 708-304-2907

Just Joe’s Acoustic Jams

Reoccurring every Thursday from 9 p.m.- 1 a.m.

The music community is vibrant in Hammond and the potluck is packed with audience members and performers alike. There’s a $5 cover charge, but if you play or bring your own dish, you’ll receive $2 off your entry. At Paul Henry’s, everyone is a part of the show…

Fall is on its way in, but there is still time to get out and enjoy the warm air and cool breezes here at Whitcomb Terrace. The leaves will start to turn, and fall events are starting, with pumpkin patches and fall festivals on the way.

One such festival is coming up just 20 minutes from Merrillville and Whitcomb Terrace, and that’s the funky festival that is Harvest Fest at Hruby Ranch down in Crown Point. This two-day festival takes place September 24 – 26 with two full nights of music and arts.

There will be a ton of local food venues, camping, local and national artists and vendors, and more at this music festival for everyone.

The festival kicks off on Friday the 24th and headliners Funkinetics have two sets. There will be a kids section, as well as tons of art for sale, food trucks from local businesses, and much more.

Tickets and More Info

You can purchase tickets up to the day of the event, including single day passes, full weekend passes that include primitive camping and car camping passes which allow for a 10×40 space for you and your vehicle, and up to two tents.

Check out their Facebook page for updates and info on vendors and more!

Venue Address: 4795 East 129th Avenue, Crown Point, IN

Some important notes from the host website:

  • Please carpool!  We are very limited on parking space and want to provide for as many folks as we can.

  • Clean up after yourselves and be respectful of the property.  We are fortunate to have this space to use and want to be caretakers of the land so we may continue to host this event under its owners' good graces.

  • Bring some cash!  Food, merch and other vending will be available throughout the weekend.  No ATM on site.

  • Toilets and water for refilling bottles will be provided.

  • You must wear your wristband at all times.  Those found without a wristband will be asked to purchase one from registration or leave the premises.

  • Do not trespass into neighboring farm fields.  They are not part of the festival grounds.  You will be asked to leave if found outside the perimeter as labeled on the map.

  • No camping is allowed in the forest or parking lot.  Primitive camping and car camping are located where labeled on the map.  You must purchase a car camping ticket to camp next to your vehicle.

  • Children 12 and under are free with paying adults.

Prohibited items:

  • No pets.

  • No firearms or weapons.

  • No illegal substances.

  • No glass.

  • No open fires outside designated areas.

Farmers Markets and summertime tend to go hand in hand, with many markets running through the fall. There’s something wonderful about fresh, local produce and handcrafted goods. Small businesses and farmers can showcase their products and services to the community, and it feels good to the consumer to know where their food came from.

We wanted to highlight these farmers and crafters and inform our residents at Whitcomb Terrace about farmers markets happening right here around Merrillville. From fruits and veggies to craft goods, honey, and baked goods, these are the best local markets to enjoy!

Miller Beach Farmers Market

667 S. Lake Street, just south of Route 12 in Gary, Indiana

219-238-6758, or by emailing [email protected]

May – September, Sundays, 11 am – 1 pm

Just 20 minutes north of Whitcomb Terrace, and within walking distance of Marquette Park Beach, Miller Beach Farmers Market is one of the best. This is a great way to get out on a weekend and see both a fantastic market and get out on the water!

This market features a vast range of local foods and craft goods, including farm-fresh produce, baked goods, ethnic foods, honey, plants, fresh-cut flowers, handmade soaps and body butter, cheese, jewelry, and art. Outreach and education are important, which is why we also sponsor local nonprofits and feature them in the market.

This not-for-profit market relies on vendors and fundraising. Volunteers are a huge part of our organization, an extension of the Miller Beach Arts & Creative District

Come enjoy the sunshine!

2021 Hobart Summer Market on the Lake

Festival Park

111 E Old Ridge Rd, Hobart, IN 46342

Thursdays, May 27 – August 26, 4 pm to 9 pm

The Summer Market on the Lake is a great place to enjoy outdoor marketplaces featuring local, fresh produce, baked items, unique foods, crafts, jewelry, local beer, and live music!

The Festival Park Bandshell begins at 6 pm the same evening, with bands scheduled into August.

8/12 – Gerry Hundt

8/26 – Dirt Born

We love getting out and enjoying the community and all our local vendors have to offer. We hope you’ll join us this summer/fall!

Downtown Northwest Indiana just got an upgrade! Located in Indiana's Lake County, Whitcomb Terrace is now managed by Marquette Management. Situated off the Lincoln Highway, our apartment homes at Whitcomb Terrace offer incredibly close proximity to some of the best shopping, dining, and entertainment options in Merrillville, Indiana, including highly accessible options for partaking in the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations.

As the Fourth of July draws ever closer, our residents at Whitcomb Terrace will be pleased to know that there are events sprawled across Merrillville that offer spectacular views of the annual fireworks tradition. Because of Whitcomb Terrace’s close location to the highway that runs across Merrillville, anyone staying at our luxury apartment homes with an itch for fireworks can easily visit any of the multiple spots around the area with ease.

Primarily, most of the surrounding area celebrates the Fourth of July over at the annual Ross Township July 4th celebration. Located at the nearby Hidden Lake Park, the Ross Township celebration is only minutes away and is a great occasion to join your loved ones as you celebrate Independence Day in comfort and excitement. Guests can attend their annual Independence Day festival on July 3rd, as their gates open to the public as early as 1pm in the afternoon. Our residents will be glad to know that from 1pm all the way to 11pm in the evening, you’ll be able to enjoy festivities such as live music from local bands, multiple food vendors, and even a beer garden. Their spectacular fireworks show shall then commence at 9pm the evening of the 3rd, offering spectators jaw-dropping sights of their annually prepared arsenal of explosive fireworks, and setting off the Fourth of July with a dazzling display in the night sky.

Alternatively, our residents can also opt to visit nearby Schererville for an earlier celebration of Independence on July 2nd at their event in Rohrman Park. Further down south, Cedar Lake is hosting an event titled “Fireworks on the Lake at Cedar Lake Summerfest”, a 4-day event spanning July 2nd to July 5th that also showcases an impressive fireworks show at 9pm on the 3rd of July.
